Databook's Company Search tool offers a powerful set of filters that allow you to find the most relevant companies to target.

This article explains how you can prospect companies and add them to a list in Databook.

To get started, go to the Company Search tool by following this link.

Company filters

In Company Search, you can find filters for company information on the left:

These filters allow you to filter by:

  • Keywords that appear in the company description

  • Tags associated with the company

  • Number of employees

  • Geography (e.g. continent, country, US state etc.)

  • Industry

  • Key Decision Period (i.e. when executives at the company are planning to make budgeting decisions for the next fiscal year)

Financial filters

Company Search also has unique financial filters that allow you to target companies with a specific financial case for change.

  • Revenue (e.g. search for companies with revenue greater than $10 billion)

  • Profit (e.g. search for companies with profit less than $0)

  • Profitability (e.g. choose 'Lower than peers' to search for companies with profitability lower than the competitor group mean)

  • Revenue Growth (e.g. choose 'Weakness' to search for companies where Databook's analysis suggests revenue growth is weak compared to competitors)

  • SG&A Margin  (e.g. choose 'Weakness' to search for companies where Databook's analysis suggests SG&A as a percentage of revenue is weak compared to competitors)

  • Gross Margin (e.g. choose 'Weakness' to search for companies where Databook's analysis suggests gross margin is weak compared to competitors)

  • Total Shareholder Return (e.g. choose 'Higher than peers' to search for companies with higher TSR than the competitor group mean)

  • Cost Takeout Importance (e.g. choose 'Greater than 50%' to see companies who need to prioritize cost-cutting over revenue growth to improve their profitability. More details here)

Tip
Searching for companies with a financial weakness (e.g. revenue growth, SG&A margin or gross margin) can be an effective way to find companies whose financial case for change aligns with the value that your solution creates (e.g. +1% improvement to revenue growth).

Creating a list of prospects

Once you have used the filters to find your target companies, you can add them to a list.

This allows you to see key metrics, news and management intent for these companies.

To add the companies to a list, click on the 'Add all companies to a list' button.

You will then be prompted to either create a new list or add the companies to an existing list.

You can add a maximum of 150 companies to a list.
