Databook Slack App Installation

Document v1.0a

This document contains instructions on how to install the Databook App for Slack.

Choice of installation path

Slack offers two levels of installation for apps: Workspace-level and Enterprise Grid-level. The key differences are based on scope, accessibility, and control within the Slack ecosystem.

Feature

(A) Workspace-level Installation

(B) Enterprise Grid-level Installation

Scope

Single workspace

All workspaces in the Enterprise Grid

Permissions

Limited to one workspace

Broader, covering the entire organization

Control

Managed by workspace admins

Managed by enterprise admins

Use Case

Team-specific apps

Organization-wide apps

The choice between workspace-level and Enterprise Grid-level app installation in Slack depends on the customer's size and needs. Smaller companies often prefer workspace-level installations, while larger organizations tend to favor Enterprise Grid-level installations for centralized control and scalability.

It’s also worth noting that with Enterprise Grid-level installations, apps are not automatically added to all workspaces. Instead, enterprise admins can control where the app is available - choosing none, specific workspaces, or all workspaces - based on their unique set of organizational requirements. This flexibility allows for strategic deployment while maintaining compliance and alignment with company policies.

(A) Workspace-level installation

  • Search for the Desired App: Use the search bar in the Slack App Directory to find Databook.

  • Select the App: Click on the app's icon or name to open its detailed page.

  • Click "Add to Slack": On the app's page, click the Add to Slack button. This will start installation.

  • Review Permissions: Review the app's requested permissions and features.

  • Grant Necessary Permissions: Click Allow to authorize the app to integrate with your workspace.

  • Choose Workspace: If you belong to multiple workspaces, you’ll be prompted to select a specific one.

  • Confirm Installation Redirect: Once configured, you will be redirected back to the Slack App.

  • Confirm Installation Message: You will receive a confirmation message or notification in Slack.

  • Inform Your Team (Optional): Notify relevant team members about the new app and its purpose.

(B) Enterprise Grid-level installation

  • Authenticate as an Enterprise Grid Admin: Log in to your Slack Enterprise Grid admin account.

  • Access the Organization Management Console: Navigate to Organization Management Console.

  • Go to the Integrations Section: In the left-hand navigation menu, select Integrations.

  • Expand the Manage Apps dropdown: In the top-right, open the Manage Apps drop-down.

  • Click on Install an app: From drop-down menu, click on Install an app.

  • Select the Databook app: Search for Databook and select the app from the search results.

  • Confirm redirect to installation flow: Confirm the redirect dialog to enter into the installation flow.

  • Review Permissions and Policies:

Check the app’s requested permissions. Ensure they align with your organization’s security and compliance policies. If needed, consult with your IT or security team before proceeding.

  • Configure App for Workspaces: Click on Add to more workspaces.

  • Select App Workspace availability: Add the app to workspaces within your organization.

  • Grant Necessary Permissions: Click Allow to authorize the app to integrate with your workspace.
